CRAZY FINGERS HEADLINES 2005 EARTH DAY CELEBRATIONS FOR 5TH YEAR

Kicking off this year's annual event with a live performance, Crazy Fingers played some of their much loved classic grooves. Music played at the venue of this year's Maui Earth Day Peace Festival, Baldwin Park in Paia, Maui, from noon to sunset. Located near the beach, and held in perfect weather, the free event showcased live local music entertainment and dance performances, as well as activities for the youngsters, including face painting.

Speaking at the event were environmental and social awareness information and displays and you've got an educational and fun day. Other live music performances included: Groove Tribe, Rich Stillwell, Jillian Speer, Poni Brendan, Funktion Hip Hop Dance, Temple of Peace with Kedar, Sundance and Buffalo Nation with special guest Windcloud, Maui Marimba Ensemble, Mirayah Delamar Bellydancing and Pueo Women’s Native American Drumming. ONE LOVE MAUI EARTH DAY CELEBRATION AND MAUI MUSIC FESTIVAL
* MAUI TIME * April 13, 1999 *

Sativa Hemp Wear and the Hemp Stock in Haiku are working together with the Hemp House in Paia and a small group of concerned citizens to organize Maui’s One Love Earth Day Celebration at the Maui Botanical Gardens Amphitheater on Sunday, April 18th (located across from the War Memorial Stadium in Kahului). This will be a drug and alcohol free event from 10am to 5pm and festivities will include live entertainment music performances by local Maui and Hawaii bands (Red Clay, Crazy Fingers, Haka Riddim, The Street Shaman Band), cultural dancers, drummers, reggae, jazz, and other Maui music entertainment. In addition to the performances, there will be a hemp fashion show, a keiki craft corner, and lots of food and refreshments and local craft vendors.

At the Earth Day Maui Music Festival where Crazy Fingers Headlined, There will be environmental groups such as the Pacific Whale Foundation and The Sierra Club, Hawaii Organic Farmers Association (HOFA), as well as a hemp education booth and a Y2K info booth to make the public aware of the many environmental problems the people of Maui are faced with. This event is not for profit under Peace Inc. and proceeds will go to further educate the people of Maui and to buy environmentally related books for the public libraries. There are at least a dozen local businesses and concerned citizens sponsoring this event and the event looks to be one of Maui’s biggest and best events of it’s kind to date. {Maui Time]

This reformatted CD from the Maui-based group has had Front Street regulars raving for months. Just when it seems hawaii's island music scene is being drowned in vapid remakes and pseudo-rasta posing along comes Crazy Fingers.

The group, with lead singers Scott Baird and Felicity Raugust, is immersed in the reggae groove, with variations in rap and funk and some blues.

Tunes that have received public endorsement include "Puff" (with some links to the Magic Dragon), "Haleakala" and "Surfs Up," Portions of the CD have been previously released and sold mostly at live shows by the band. Jamaican rhythms generally provide the beat, but the band adroitly plays rock, ska, punk, pop and African-American rap as well. These radio friendly riffs, imaginative lyrics and mostly positive themes make this album strong in all areas. Every song is well worked out and original.

Other cuts worth checking out: "Love Goes the Distance," "Reachin' Out" and "Jah People." Undoubtedly, this new arrival - and ongoing opening-act slots for visiting acts - Could widen Crazy Fingers? grip on the music scene. Visit Maui News website.
